A New Camera for a New Citizen (my wife!)

Two things happened last week that were significant, one much more than the other.

The first thing that happened is I purchased a new video camera.  The one I purchased just over a year ago, no longer records, this MiniDV camera seems to have a problem recording clearly and I haven’t a clue how to get it fixed (feel free to post any suggestions).  What is unique about this camera is that it takes no tapes or memory cards.  It records DVD quality (option for widescreen format as well) all to an internal Hard Drive.  So, much like a 1 hour MP3 audio file being transferred to your MP3 player or iPod in a matter of minutes, my videos can be transferred to my computer in a fraction of the time it takes to view them.  Once on the computer I can then edit and burn it to a DVD for safe keeping.  I haven’t downloaded to my computer yet, if you inquire I will let you know my experience.  Here is the JVC video camera I purchased (model GZ-MG27).

Now for the REASON I purchased the video camera, the most significant event…  On Friday, my wife of 8 years officially became a US Citizen in a special ceremony at the local courthouse (Of course I wanted to record the ceremony)  I met my wife in Ghana, West Africa over 10 years ago, she is originally from Brazil.  I had never been at a citizenship ceremony before, this was a very special event.  They even let people in the audience speak from the podium to share from their experiences.  Sample Certificate.

An excellent weekend indeed (didn’t even tell you about an old high school buddy flying out to visit and golf 54 holes of golf!).

Last Reach and Last Attempt in ACT-2006

In a recent post to a forum I participate in the following question was asked about Last Reach & Last Attempt in ACT! 2006, I thought I’d share this with you here as perhaps others of you might have a similar question and benefit from my response.

“What is the purpose of the Last Reach & Last Attempt fields?  How do they get updated?  Is there a way to update them?  And are they connected to the Last Results field?”

For those unfamiliar with the fields mentioned, they are included in a screenshot below.

Last Reach and Last Attempt

This is a good question.  It follows the same pattern set forth in previous versions of ACT! which is as follows:
o Last Reach is updated anytime a Call is Completed (result when entering a history or clearning an activity) for a contact.
o Last Attempt is updated whenever there was a history with one of the following results, Left Message or Attempted Call.
…incidentally selecting Recieved Call populates neither.
o Last Reach does not automatically update Last Attempt.  Think of it as Last Attempt without reaching them.

These are system date fields, and as such cannot be updated/modified
manually.  In other words, you cannot change the information in these fields as

you can with others, they are changed the ACT! program once an event occurs.

Mini-Calendar

So you are on a call, and you desperately need to find out what day of the week the 18th of the month falls on.  Pressing the [F4] key on your keyboard from any view in ACT!, gives you a mini-calendar.  Double click a date on the mini-calendar, and see what happens!
